This specimen was part of lot 40398 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,086.87. The catalog description[1] noted, "TANZANIA. 200 Shilingi, 1981. NGC MS-69. Only 110 Pieces minted." This NCLT commemorative was struck to the standard of a Great Britain gold two pounds. It was accompanied by a silver 200 shilingi (KM 14) and a copper-nickel twenty shilingi (KM 13) for the masses. It is safe to say that none of the gold coins issued for Tanzania after independence circulated there.
