Tanzania 1974 50 shilingi
This specimen was part of lot 34843 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), which sold for $1,980. The catalog description[1] noted, "Tanzania: Republic 3-Piece gold & silver "Conservation" Proof Set 1974, 1) silver "Giraffes" 25 Shilingi - Proof, KM 7a; 2) silver "Rhinoceros" 50 Shilingi - Proof; 3) gold "Cheetahs" 1500 Shilingi - PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. AGW 0.9675 oz. cf. KM-PS2 (for 2-piece silver set). A difficult complete Proof set, all with strong cameo contrasts, and including the gold 1500 Shilingi, of which only 866 Proofs were minted." The uncirculated issue was struck in billon (KM 8) and the proofs in sterling silver (KM 8a).
