Switzerland 1885-B 10 rappen
This specimen was lot 74752 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. 10 Rappen, 1885-B. Bern Mint. PCGS MS-65. Smartly impressed with razor sharp detail throughout, this is an impressive example from a delightfully well produced Swiss series. Lightly toned in pale champagne-gold, both sides are intensely lustrous with a lively satin texture to the finish. Remarkably, Swiss 10 Rappen are still struck at Bern today with the exact same design and specification." This type was struck 1879-2015 without change. The 1885 is not rare but more recent issues, minted in larger quantity and extensively saved, are much cheaper.
Recorded mintage: 3,000,000.
Specification: 3 g, 19.15 mm diameter, copper-nickel.
Catalog reference: KM-27.
