Sincona Auction 103, lot 406

This specimen was lot 406 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$213 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Stolberg-Stolberg, Grafschaft, Christoph Friedrich und Jost Christian, 1704-1738. 1/3 Taler 1717, Stolberg. Auf die 200-Jahrfeier der Reformation. Ausbeute der Stolberger Gruben. Feinsilber nach Leipziger Fuss. Münzmeister Johann Jeremias Gründler. Sehr schön. (Germany, county of Stolberg-Stolberg, Christopher Frederick and Jost Christian, 1704-38, one-third thaler of 1717, Stolberg mint, on the bicentennial of the Reformation, for the Stolberg mines. Struck to the Leipzig standard. Very Fine.)"

This tiny state issued an extensive series of half gulden (1/3 thaler) and one gulden (⅔ thaler) pieces in the eighteenth century. This one year type is accompanied by a gulden and one thaler.
