Stolberg-Rochefort (15)46 thaler Dav-9864
The first specimen was lot 3870 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,012 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Stolberg-Königstein, Grafschaft Ludwig II. 1535-1574. Taler 1546, Nördlingen. Sehr schön. (Germany, county of Stolberg-Konigstein, Louis II, 1535-74, thaler of 1546, Nordlingen mint, very fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 13156 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $822. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Stolberg. Taler, 1546. NGC AU-50. Ludwig II (1544-74). Toned." This type is from one of the many splinters of Stolberg. A double thaler and 1½ thaler also exist.
