Stolberg-Rochefort 1549 thaler Dav-9864
This specimen was lot 1089 in Jean Elsen sale 109 (Brussels, June 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, STOLBERG-ROCHEFORT, Ludwig II de Königstein (1535-1574), AR Taler, 1549, Augsbourg. Au titre de Charles Quint. Droit : Ecu posé sur une croix fleuronnée, cantonnée de quatre écussons. Revers : Aigle impériale couronnée, avec l'écu d'Augsbourg sur la poitrine. Rare. Belle patine. Très Beau à Superbe." (County of Stolberg-Rochefort, Louis II of Konigstein, 1535-74, silver thaler of 1549, Augsburg mint, issued in the name of Charles V. Obverse: shield on floriate cross, four small shields in fields; reverse: imperial eagle displayed, bearing the arms of Augsburg. Rare, Very Fine to Extremely Fine.)
This specimen was offered again as lot 1007 in Jean Elsen price list 259 (January-March 2012), where it was offered at € 750. This type is from one of the many splinters of Stolberg.
