This specimen was lot 1814 in Steve Album sale 16 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2013), where it sold for $330.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "ST. GALLEN: BI batzen, 1807, mintmaster K, NGC graded MS65." Switzerland was united in a loose confederation in the Middle Ages and left the Holy Roman Empire in 1648. Each canton issued its own coins until Switzerland was made a French puppet state by Napoleon. Cantonal issues resumed in 1807 and batzen (= 1/40 of a thaler) were issued for St. Gall until 1817.
