St. Gall 1623 thaler Dav-4677A
This specimen was lot 4486 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 3,000 CHF (about US$4,352 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ St. Gallen, Stadt und Kanton, Talerklippe 1623, St. Gallen. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. (Switzerland, St. Gall, klippe thaler of 1623, St. Gall mint. Very rare in this condition, Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Attractively toned.)"
The round thaler (KM 61/Dav-4677) was struck 1620-24 and is the only affordable thaler from this canton during the seventeenth century. The klippe version shown here was struck 1620-22 and is much more expensive.
