Aureo sale 232, lot 131

The specimen shown was lot 131 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 850 euros (about US$1,402 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1630. Segovia. P. 8 reales. Buen ejemplar. Rara. EBC-. (Eight reales of 1630, Segovia mint. Good example and rare; nearly extremely fine.)

This type was issued intermittently at Segovia 1621-60. The aqueduct was the mintmark for the Segovia mint until it closed in the 1840's.

Specification: 27.47 g, 0.931 fine silver, .821 troy oz ASW.
