Stack's Bowers October 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 73359

This specimen was lot 73359 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Cob 1/2 Real, 1592-Fo. Valladolid Mint. Philip II. PCGS VF-30. From the Richard August Collection." This type is listed in Cayón for 1592-98 from Valladolid (shown here), Toledo, Segovia, Granada and Seville. The Valladolid mint did not use a letter for a mintmark but rather four pennants on a single pole, visible to the left of the royal monogram.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 1.61 g.
