This specimen was lot 3544 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$5,641 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Solothurn | Stadt und Kanton. Doppelduplone 1798, Solothurn. Gekröntes Stadtwappen mit Girlanden. Rv. Stehender hl. Ursus mit Nimbus. In der Rechten Stab mit Kreuzfahne und umgehängtes Schwert. Im Abschnitt die Jahreszahl. Laubrand. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, double duplone of 1798, Solothurn mint. Garlanded and crowned arms of the city; reverse: St. Ursus standing, with halo, holding a cross and a sword, date below with laurel wreath. Very rare date, Good extremely fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 4460 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 3,750 CHF (about US$5,440 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Stadt und Kanton, Doppelduplone 1798, Solothurn. Gerstenkornrand. Selten. Gutes vorzüglich. Feine Kratzer. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, double duplone of 1798, Solothurn mint, reeded edge. Rare, About Uncirculated, Minor hairlines.)"

This type is listed for 1796-98 and is expensive. This denomination is also noted for Bern, Luzern and the Helvetian Republic. The canton also struck quarter, half and one duplone.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: 15.28 g, 0.900 fine gold, the first specimen 15.30 g, the second specimen 15.25 g.
