Sincona sale 95, lot 4467

The second specimen was lot 4467 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$485 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Stadt und Kanton, 20 Batzen 1798, Solothurn. Kettenrand. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, twenty batzen of 1798, Solothurn mint. About Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1795 and 1798, along with a ten batzen (KM 51), five batzen (KM 50) and ten kreuzer (KM 49). Twenty batzen was one half thaler. The 1795 is slightly more available than the 1798, the year the canton was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 15.2 g, silver, 33 mm diameter, the first specimen 14.81 g, the second specimen 15.08 g.
