Sincona sale 34, lot 4329

This specimen was lot 4329 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$356 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Karl VI. 1711-1740 Taler 1739. Breslau Ohne Münzmeisterzeichen. Sehr schön. Grüner Lackfleck auf Rv. (Holy Roman Empire, Charles VI, 1711-40, thaler of 1739, Breslau mint, without mintmaster's initials. Very fine, green stain on reverse.)"

This type is listed for 1723-40 but is scarce despite the lengthy production run. Charles VI spent much of his later years arranging for his daughter, Maria Theresia, to succeed him. However, on his death, Frederick II of Prussia promptly ignored the treaties and invaded Silesia.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.82 g, 0.875 fine silver.

Catalog reference: F. u. S. 923. Herinek 426. Dav-1098, KM 819.3 (listed under Silesia).
