Künker sale 406, lot 4612

This specimen was lot 4612 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €5,500 (about US$7,217 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Karl VI. 1711-1740. Reichstaler 1727, Breslau. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 64 (6643509-013). Prachtexemplar. Hübsche Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Austria, Charles VI, 1711-40, thaler of 1727, Breslau mint. Graded NGC MS-64, cabinet example, handsome patina, light planchet defects, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1723-32, 1736-40 and is fairly common for the locale. Charles VI spent much of his later years arranging for his daughter, Maria Theresia, to succeed him. However, on his death, Frederick II of Prussia promptly ignored the treaties and invaded Silesia.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 28.29 g.

Catalog reference: KM 819.3 (listed under Silesia), Dav-1098; F. u. S. 883; Voglh. 256 VI.
