Sincona sale 51, lot 3730

This specimen was lot 3730 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$633 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Karl VI. 1711-1740. Taler 1717, Breslau. Gutes sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Silesia, Charles VI, 1711-40, thaler of 1717, Breslau mint. Good very fine.)"

This type was struck 1716-17 for Charles VI in his capacity as duke of Silesia. On his death, Frederick the Great of Prussia invaded and seized the duchy from Maria Theresia of Austria. This thaler is moderately scarce.
