This specimen was lot 25049 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $12,925. The catalog description[1] noted, "James VI gold Sword & Sceptre 1603, AU58 PCGS, nicely toned with exceptionally sharp details, an attractive example of this scarcer date. The 3 in the date is clearly cut over a 2." The coinage of Scotland prior to unification with England is confusing. Bullion was scarce, so issues were small and sporadic. Pence and shillings were used but were not worth their English equivalents. This "sword and sceptre" was worth about one English pound.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: gold.

Catalog reference: KM 20, S-5460, Fr-46.
