This specimen was lot 30574 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "Saxony. Anton gold Ducat 1827-S, MS61 NGC. A somewhat scarce type and year, this piece has superb detail and only the faintest of marks. There are a few very tiny deposits on the reverse that don't detract at all from the coin's appeal." This was issued 1827-28 only and, like all Saxon ducats of the nineteenth century, is rare. The subsequent issue (KM 1125) featured an older bust of the king. Gold five and ten thalers are listed for 1827, also rare.
Recorded mintage: 587.
Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold.
