Künker sale 406, lot 4391

This specimen was lot 4391 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,115 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich August I. 1806-1827. Konv.-Taler 1827, S, auf seinen Tod. Ausbeute. R Prachtexemplar. Feine Patina, Erstabschlag, fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Saxony, Frederick Augustus I, 1806-27, convention mining thaler of 1827, on his death. Rare, cabinet example, fine patina, first strike, about uncirculated.)"

This death thaler comes in two forms; KM 1111.1, with the regular edge lettering, and KM 1111.2, shown here, with edge lettered "SEGEN DES BERGBAUS". The two look identical in auction lot photos, which don't show the edge.

Recorded mintage: 14,000 plus 4,357 with edge lettered "SEGEN DES BERGBAUS".

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, edge lettered "SEGEN DES BERGBAUS", this specimen 28,04 g.
