Sincona sale 38, lot 1236

This specimen was lot 1236 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 4,000 CHF (about US$4,797 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Sachsen, ab 1806 Königreich, Friedrich August III. (I.), 1763-1827 Dukat 1806. Dresden Selten. Nur 3207 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich-FDC. (kingdom of Saxony, Frederick August, 1763-1827, ducat of 1806, Rare. Only 3207 pieces struck, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type is listed for 1806-13 and is rare. This is the highest mintage date. Napoleon promoted Frederick Augustus from elector to king. After Waterloo, the king was stripped of half his lands at the Congress of Vienna but was permitted to keep his title.
