This specimen was lot 34707 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. Friedrich August III Taler 1784-IEC MS62 NGC. A fleeting taler type, here offered with an exemplary strike that yields well-chiseled detail throughout the motifs. A subtle patina that deepens gently toward the peripheries overlies the surfaces." This mining thaler was struck 1780-90. Most mining thalers are rare, this one is only somewhat scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver.
