from the Stack's Bowers 2017 ANA sale, lot 22405
Saxony SB817-22405r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22405 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 2/3 Taler, 1747. Friedrich August II (1733-63). NGC VF-30. On the marriage of Prince Friedrich Christian to Anna of Bavaria. Toned and attractive." Whereas previous weddings, baptisms, funerals and the like had occasioned the release of a range of silver and gold commemoratives, this seems to be the only one issued for this event, suggesting the impoverishment of the Saxon state as a result of the War of the Austrian Succession.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.8 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM-922.
