Künker Auction 441, lot 4472

This specimen was lot 4472 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,852 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Friedrich August II., 1733-1763. Reichstaler 1747, Dresden. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, winz. Prägeschwäche, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (electorate of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II, 1733-63, thaler of 1747, Dresden mint. Choice example, superb patina, slightly weakly struck, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The exhaustion of the fighting in Poland rendered the Saxon state prostrate, and most of the thalers of this period are rare. Prosperity (and high mintages) would not return until the reign of Friedrich August III (1763-1806). This type was issued every year 1734-56 but it is not common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 29,17 g.

Catalog reference: KM 880, Dav-2665; Schnee 1028; Kahnt 531.
