Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 42314
SB126-42314r.jpg

This specimen was lot 42314 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1755-FWoF. Dresden Mint. Friedrich August II. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. This decently preserved example exhibits a somewhat two-tone appearance with rich slate patina in the legends and amongst the devices while the exposed areas are a brighter gray coloration. The obverse is boldly struck while the reverse is somewhat uneven. Close inspection reveal evidence of a past cleaning accounting for the details designation. Despite its shortcomings a presentable example of this popular type." This type was issued every year 1734-56 but it is not common. Elector Frederick August II was also king of Poland and collectors of that country also claim this issue.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-2665; KM-880; Kop-11460.
