This specimen was lot 24086 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "Saxony. Friedrich August I Taler 1694-IK, MS62 NGC, nicely toned with a tiny natural edge crack at 11 o'clock, struck to mark the death of Johann George IV." The prosperity of Saxony declined after the elector embroiled it in wars over the Polish succession. The production of thalers also dropped and many of the later types are rare, including this one.
