This specimen was lot 77327 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony (Ernestine line). Taler, 1543. Annaberg Mint. Johann Friedrich & Moritz. VERY FINE." Saxony, one of the larger divisions of Germany and blessed with numerous silver mines, issued large numbers of thalers. This type, issued by the Ernestine branch, is noted for 1542-47.
