Saxe-Altenburg 1618-WA thaler Dav-7367
This specimen was lot 1594 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €170 (about US$196 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, SAXE-ALTENBURG, Johann Philipp, Friedrich, Johann Wilhelm et Friedrich Wilhelm II (1603-1625), AR Reichstaler, 1618 WA, Saalfeld. D/ B. cuir. de Johann Philipp à d. R/ B. cuir. de ses trois frères à d. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, John Philip, Frederick, John William and Frdereick William II, 1603-25, silver thaler of 1618, Saalfeld mint. Obverse: armored bust of John Philip right; reverse: armored busts of his three brothers right. Fine/Fine - Very Fine.)"
The SCWC lists many different thalers for Saxe-Altenburg, including Dav-7367 (shown here), Dav-7369, Dav-7371 and Dav-7382 for 1623 alone. This type was issued 1618-23. The last of the brothers died in 1639.
