The first specimen was lot 675 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $969.38. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Gotha. Taler, 1616-WA. NGC AU-55. Johann Casimir and Johann Ernst II (1572-1633). Nice peripheral toning." The second specimen was lot 29878 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[2] noted, "Saxe-Gotha. Johann Casimir & Johann Ernst Taler 1616-WA MS63* NGC. Bright multicolored tone frames the centers with a strong strike further aiding the overall eye-appeal. A magnificent representative of the type that is likely unsurpassed in visual appearance. Accompanied with an old collector's ticket. Ex. New Netherlands Coin Company." This type is listed for 1612-19. This division of the Saxon lands lasted 1572-1638. Saxe-Neu-Gotha dates from 1640.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
