Salzburg 1715 1/4 thaler KM-312
This specimen was lot 1540 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,214 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Salzburg, Erzbistum. Franz Anton von Harrach, 1709-1727. 1/4 Taler 1715, Salzburg. Variante ohne das Münzzeichen Stern (Philipp Heinrich Müller, Stempelschneider in Augsburg). Äusserst selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS61. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Franz Anton von Harrach, 1709-1727, quarter thaler of 1715, Salzburg mint, variety without the star mintmark. Extremely rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"
This prince-archbishop had two different quarter thalers struck; KM 312 of 1710-15, with his bust (shown here), and KM 305 of 1712-15, with the Madonna and Child on the obverse. Both are scarce.
