This specimen was lot 33324 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "Austria: Salzburg. Franz Anton gold 1/4 Ducat 1714 MS64 NGC. A lesser-seen diminutive ducat fraction that rivals even some multiple issues in terms of its luster and quality." The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. In the seventeenth century it was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. This type was struck 1709, 1712-19 and 1725.
