Salzburg 1688 1/4 ducat Fr-835
This specimen was lot 1696 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €260 (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE GEISTLICHKEIT IN DEN HABSBURGISCHEN ERBLANDEN, SALZBURG, ERZBISTUM, Johann Ernst von Thun und Hohenstein, 1687-1709. 1/4 Dukat 1688. GOLD. Vorzüglich. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Johann Ernst von Thun und Hohenstein, 1687-1709, quarter ducat of 1688. extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1687-88, 1699-1700, 1704-07 and is common. In addition to a wide array of gold coins ranging from a quarter ducat to ten ducats, many were issued in klippe (square) format for presentation.
