Künker sale 352, lot 1697

This specimen was lot 1697 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,948 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE GEISTLICHKEIT IN DEN HABSBURGISCHEN ERBLANDEN, SALZBURG, ERZBISTUM, Johann Ernst von Thun und Hohenstein, 1687-1709. Dukat 1690. GOLD. Vorzüglich. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Johann Ernst von Thun und Hohenstein, 1687-1709, ducat of 1690. extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1687-1708 and is common. In addition to a wide array of gold coins ranging from a quarter ducat to ten ducats, many were issued in klippe (square) format for presentation.
