This specimen was lot 2095 in Goldberg sale 110 (Los Angeles, June 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Austria: Salzburg. 3 Kreuzer, 1681. Archbishops. Max Gandolph Graf Kuenburg, 1668-1687. Three-quarter bust wearing archbishop's Mit[er]. Choice mint state with full original brilliant mint luster. NGC graded MS-64." The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. In the seventeenth century it was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. This type was struck 1678-85 and is common.
