Künker sale 336, lot 6241

This specimen was lot 6241 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €700 (about US$916 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND, Republik seit 1992. 100 Rubel 1994, Moskau. Wassily Kandinsky, 1866-1944. 15,55 g Feingold. GOLD. Polierte Platte. (republic of Russia, one hundred rubles of 1994, Moscow mint, on Wassily Kandinsky, 1866-1944. Proof.)"

This NCLT is one of the first issues of the post-communist regime in Russia. It honors abstract painter Wassily Kandinsky who, tho born and educated in czarist Russia, spent most if his career in Germany.

Recorded mintage: 6,000 proofs.

Specification: 17.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.500 troy oz AGW, 30 mm diameter.
