Russia 1915 3 kopeks
This specimen was lot 72423 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 3 Kopecks, 1915. Petrograd (St. Petersburg) Mint. Nicholas II. PCGS MS-64 Brown. This highly attractive near Gem survivor displays lovely rich mottled patina with remaining original mint red amongst the devices adding to its pleasing appearance." This type was struck 1915-17 during World War One as the Czarist regime started to come apart. It varied from the previous 3 kopeks (KM Y11.2) by the absence of a mintmark.
