This specimen was lot 31623 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $6,300. The catalog description[1] noted, "Nicholas II gold 5 Roubles 1911-ЭБ MS63 NGC, St. Petersburg mint. The final date and a key for the type, with an original mintage of 100,000 coins, but very few survivors due to the melting of many. In Mint State, actually quite rare, with only eight coins certified at this Select grade (MS63) and finer between NGC and PCGS combined. As such, this coin, with its bright luster and strong detail, is certain to excite!" This type was struck 1898-1911 in sufficient numbers as to be considered a bullion coin, tho this is a rare date. At the time of issue, 8 French gold francs = 3 Russian gold rubles.
