Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74494

This specimen was lot 74494 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 50 Kopeks, 1911-EB. St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Mint. Nicholas II. PCGS MS-63. An elevated, near-Gem minor, this specimen remains blast white and argent, with essentially no toning to observe." This is a better date of a type struck 1895-1914. The fifty kopeks replaced the old poltina or half ruble.

Recorded mintage: 800,000.
