Sincona sale 19, lot 861

This specimen was lot 861 in Sincona sale 19 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 450 (about US$564 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Kopeck 1881, St. Petersburg Mint. Choice brilliant uncirculated with full red mint lustre." This type was issued 1867-1914 in large numbers and is common. This specimen realized twenty-two times the catalog value in Uncirculated.

Recorded mintage: 8,415,000.
