Sincona sale 78, lot 522

This specimen was lot 522 in Sincona sale 78 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$480 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Alexander II. 1855-1881, Rouble 1868, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB NI. 2.25 roubles according to Petrov. About extremely fine." This type was struck 1859-85 in respectable quantities but not so many as the prior type (Dav-283). Assayer HI (Nikolay Iossa) served 1866-77.

Recorded mintage: 775,000, a better date.

Specification: 20.73 g, 0.868 fine silver, 35.5 mm diameter. This specimen 20.69 g.
