Künker sale 386, lot 5685

This specimen was lot 5685 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,068 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND, KAISERREICH, Alexander II. 1855-1881. Rubel 1864, St. Petersburg. R Winz. Randfehler und Kratzer, fast vorzüglich. (empire of Russia, Alexander II, 1855-81, ruble of 1864, St. Petersburg mint. Rare, minor edge defect and scratches, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1859-85 in respectable quantities but not so many as the prior type (Dav-283). This date is scarce but not rare. In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams.

Recorded mintage: 114,000.
