SB824-47553r.jpg

This specimen was lot 47553 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, 1840-CNM. Nicholas I. PCGS AU-58." This type was struck at the Izhora branch of the St. Petersburg mint 1840-43 and has a modest catalog value. The reverse legend, "❁ 1 ❁/КОПѢЙКА/СЕРЕБРОМЪ", means "one kopek silver." The SCWC reports a weight of 4 g for this issue, manifestly too low.

Recorded mintage: 11,200,000 for 1840-43.

Specification: 10.24 g, copper, 27 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-C144.3; Bit-825.
