Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72730

This specimen was lot 72730 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 10 Kopeks, 1839-CNB HT. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I. NGC MS-64. A charming Near Gem, this type is RARELY encountered so attractive, especially with the degree of alluring toning as is possessed by this example. Accordingly, only two have been certified finer by NGC." This type was struck 1832-58 is large numbers. The succeeding type (Y20.1) was only 0.750 fine. and the weight was reduced in 1867. This assayer, Nikolai Grachev, is listed for 1825-41.
