Sincona sale 84, lot 328

This specimen was lot 328 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 20 CHF (about US$27 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 10 Kopecks 1838, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB NG. About very fine. From the Soedermann Collection."

This silver type was struck 1832-58 simultaneously with a copper coin of the same value (KM C141.1) issued from several branch mints, particularly Ekaterinburg. The succeeding type (Y20.1) was only 0.750 fine. and the weight was reduced in 1867. This assayer, Nikolai Grachev, is listed for 1825-41.

Recorded mintage: 500,000, a better date.

Specification: 2.07 g, 0.868 fine silver, this specimen 2.01 g.
