Sincona sale 11, lot 2515

This specimen was lot 2515 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$990 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"RUSSLAND Nikolaus I. 1825-1855. 5 Rubel 1836, St. Petersburg. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Russia, Nicholas I, 1825-55, five rubles of 1836, St. Petersburg mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1832-46 for tsar Nicholas I and is the most available five rubles prior to the weight reduction of 1897.

Recorded mintage: 953,000.

Specification: 6.54 g, 0.917 fine gold, .192 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.53 g.
