Russia H3076-32137r.jpg

This specimen was lot 32137 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russia: Nicholas I Poltina (1/2 Rouble) 1832 CПБ-HГ MS63 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Fully prooflike fields. Mottled gray and russet patina, with sharply struck details and a noticeable prooflike appearance. We note that NGC has certified one example of this type as "MSPL" and there seems to be no reason that this piece should not have been certified "Prooflike." An extreme condition rarity and the finest piece certified by NGC." Altho struck in much much smaller numbers than the contemporary ruble, this type struck at St. Petersburg 1832-58 has a lower catalog value. It superseded a type with the eagle's wings down.

Recorded mintage: 50,000.

Specification: 10.36 g, 0.868 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-C167.1, Bit-236 (R1).
