This specimen was lot 72388 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 5 Rubles, 1832-CNB NA. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I. NGC AU-55. A charming example with some remaining luster in the fields and flashy eye appeal." This type was struck 1832-46 for tsar Nicholas I and is the most available five rubles prior to the weight reduction of 1897. This example is the regular issue. A very rare commemorative five rubles (KM C176, m. 1,000) was struck in 1832 to mark the discovery of gold at Kolyvan.
