Russia 1795-SP AK poltina
This specimen was lot 21410 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 1/2 Ruble, 1795-CNB AK. Catherine II (the Great) (1762-96). NGC MS-61. RARE. The single finest graded piece at NGC by three points. From late in Catherine's reign, and like all of the Poltina coinage from the era a date that saw very heavy circulation. Original surfaces throughout, and luster electrifying the obverse legends. Full facial features and attractive toning." This poltina or half ruble was struck in this style 1785-96. Like the other poltinas of the eighteenth century, it is scarce.
