This specimen was lot 42539 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $2,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Polupoltinnik (1/4 Ruble), 1795-CNB AK. St. Petersburg Mint. Catherine II "the Great". PCGS MS-63. Possessing blazing luster with soft hints of golden tone on both sides. In terms of quality, an absolute RARITY for this issue, this being the single finest certified by either PCGS or NGC." This type was struck for Catherine the Great 1783-96 in moderate numbers and is somewhat available today. The polupoltinnik ended in 1810, superseded by the twenty-five kopeks in 1827 (KM C159).
