Sincona sale 84, lot 99

This specimen was lot 99 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$202 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 5 Kopecks 1765, Red Mint, MM. Rare in this condition. Extremely fine. Traces of overstrike."

This type was struck in Moscow 1766-68 and 1788-89 for circulation in Russia, not Siberia. It is full weight. Hundreds of millions were issued between the Annensk, Moscow, Sestroretsk, Kolyvan, Ekaterinburg and St. Petersburg mints. Many survive today but few in choice condition.
