This specimen was lot 36187 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peter I Grivna (10 Kopecks) (1709) BК XF45 NGC, Red mint, Obv. Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle. Rev. Date and value. Well struck, with no significant flaws." Altho Russia was nominally on a decimal system, this coin being a tenth of a ruble or ten kopeks, we may be sure that the peasants who used this coin called it a grivennik. It is listed for 1704-05 and 1709.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.8 g, .802 fine silver.
