Sincona sale 63, lot 1724
Künker Auction 441, lot 5098

The first specimen was lot 1724 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$201 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Peter I. 1682-1725. Altyn 1704, Red Mint, BK. 1 rouble according to Petrov. Very fine." The second specimen was lot 5098 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,027 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND, KAISERREICH Peter I., der Große, 1682-1725. 3 Kopeken (1 Altyn) 1704 (kyrillisch), Moskau, Roter Münzhof. Novodel. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 63 (dort mit falscher Angabe der Bitkin-Nummer). RR Feine Patina, kl. Stempelfehler, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Russian empire, Peter the Great, 1682-1725, three kopeks or altyn of 1704, Cyrillic date, Moscow, Red Mint, novodel. Graded NGC MS-63, but with incorrect Bitkin number on label. Very rare, fine patina, minor planchet flaws, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This altyn, or three kopeks, seems to be a one year type. In 1718, it was converted to billon and sometime later converted to copper.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.80 g, 0.802 fine silver, the first specimen 0.82 g.

Catalog reference: KM 119, Bitkin 1156 (R). The second specimen Bitkin 1164; Diakov 169 (R2).
